Villa Balbianello Wedding: Cost, Packages & Everything You Need to Know

We are proud to be on the list of villa trusted wedding planners. All photos are from our weddings & events.

You've seen the photos. Villa del Balbianello isn't just a wedding venue;
it's a cinematic backdrop, featured in James Bond and Star Wars films,
and is widely considered one of the most romantic wedding locations in the world.

Many couples come to us dreaming of a wedding at Villa Balbianello, whether it's an elopement, a small wedding, or a high-end event, so we've created this guide to help you.
This guide provides you with the actual cost of a wedding at Villa Balbianello—transparent, up-to-date, and with a breakdown of every expense so you can plan wisely. Whether you're dreaming of an intimate wedding or a grand banquet for 100 guests, you'll find honest figures here.

WHAT IS VILLA DEL BALBIANELLO?

Villa del Balbianello sits on the tip of a narrow peninsula on the western shore of Lake Como, near the village of Lenno. Built in the 18th century by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, the villa is now owned and managed by FAI — Fondo Ambiente Italiano, Italy's National Trust — which maintains it as a protected historic property.

This UNESCO-adjacent landmark is accessible only by boat, which means every single guest arrives by water, creating a cinematic, fairytale arrival that no other venue on Lake Como can replicate.
Because FAI manages the property, all weddings at Villa Balbianello operate under FAI's strict rules: approved vendor lists, regulated setup and dismantling times, maximum guest capacities, and structured rental fee tiers. Understanding this framework is the key to realistic budgeting.
If you're dreaming of a wedding at this villa, we highly recommend booking 1-1.5 years in advance. The villa typically opens its booking calendar in March-April for the following year, and dates are booked out within 1-2 months.

OFFICIAL VILLA BALBIANELLO RENTAL FEES (2027)

The rental fee is the foundation of your budget and is set directly by FAI. It varies by the spaces used, the number of guests, and whether the villa is open to the public during your event.
Villa Balbianello is open to visitors on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Mondays and Wednesdays are the exclusive-use days for weddings. Booking on a public day is possible but limits privacy.

Venue rental starts at €4,200 + VAT 22% for a 30-minute ceremony during public hours and 1,5 hours of photo shooting at the Villa gardens (up to 10 guests including Bride & Groom)
3 hours Villa Rental including the ceremony & photo shooting & aperitif €6,400 + VAT 22% ( up to 30 guests including Bride & Groom)
For exclusive use after 6pm, rental fees range from approximately €15,700 + VAT 22% depending on guest count and duration.
Events with a maximum of 30 guests: It is possible to organize only the ceremony civil or symbolic and a possible aperitif during opening hours, with the exceptional closure of the loggia area for a maximum of 30 minutes, if you have more guests please plan your wedding on Monday or Wednesday when the Villa is closed for tourists.
Event time extensions: Before 6:00 PM (only possible on Mondays and Wednesdays): Euro 1.000 + 22% VAT per hour. After midnight: Euro 3.000 + 22% VAT per hour (possible only until 2:00 AM)
A maximum of 60 chairs can be placed in Loggia Durini for the ceremony; if there are floral decorations (e.g., aisle arrangements), the number of chairs must be reduced accordingly. For all accessory services, it is mandatory to consult the approved supplier list. For a full event (rental of 6 hours or more), security staff is mandatory as per the Tremezzina municipality’s requirements, along with the submission of the SCIA municipal form.

ELOPEMENT/ Micro-Wedding (During Opening Hours) up to 10 guests

If you're planning an intimate ceremony for up to 10 guests during the villa's opening hours, this is the most convenient option. A wedding package for just the two of you (or up to 10 guests) starts at €11,500 (VAT included) and includes villa rental for 2 hours (30 minutes of ceremony + 1.5 hours of photoshoot in the villa's garden), a symbolic ceremony and a wonderful officiant, a Bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere, a wooden boat on Lake Como, an excellent photographer for 4 hours, and a personal wedding planner.

COMPLETE COST BREAKDOWN: 30 guests wedding at Villa Balbianello

Beyond the venue rental, a Villa Balbianello wedding involves a specific ecosystem of suppliers — many of whom are on FAI's approved or exclusive vendor list. Here is a realistic breakdown for a 30-guest celebration.

CATERING at Villa Balbianello: What You Need to Know

Villa Balbianello has a selected vendor list for catering, meaning you cannot bring in just any caterer. The venue works with approved catering companies who are experienced with the logistical realities of the venue, kitchen etc. Catering costs typically range from €150 to €350 per person for a wedding dinner and €55- €70 for an aperitif, depending on hours of service, menu selection, number of courses, wine pairings, and the number of staff required. At the top end, expect multi-course Italian tasting menus with premium local wines, bespoke welcome cocktails, and full service staffing. Catering packages starting around €400 per guest often include food, alcohol, staffing, and basic rentals. Upgraded linens, flatware, and furniture are add-ons.

MUSIC & SOUND at Villa Balbianello

This is a detail that surprises many couples: Blunotte has exclusive rights to provide all sound and lighting equipment at Villa del Balbianello. This means you cannot bring your own DJ's sound system, band's amplifiers, or lighting rigs — all audio and lighting equipment must be rented through Blunotte. Budget at least €1200 for violin, arph or cello for the ceremony and about €8,000 for music and sound, scaling up significantly if you want a live band, elaborate lighting design, or fireworks. Entertainment packages including a DJ, live musicians, and Italian fireworks can easily reach €15,000–€25,000+.

TRANSPORTATION: The Boat Factor

Because Villa Balbianello is only reachable by water, boat transportation isn't optional — it's a fundamental part of your event logistics and budget. You and your guests should arrive by boat.
Budget at least €900 for your transportation and about €3,000 -€4,000 for guest transportation by boat, depending on the number of guests, distance from their accommodation, and the type of boats used. Vintage wooden lake boats (a Lake Como icon) are more expensive but create an unforgettable arrival experience. Modern motor boats are more economical.

What to Know Before You Book Villa Balbianello

The Venue Is Managed by FAI, Not a Private Owner
FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) is Italy's equivalent of the National Trust. This means the venue operates as a protected cultural site with non-negotiable rules around setup times, dismantling, approved vendors, and maximum capacities. Your wedding planner must have direct experience working with FAI. We are proud to be in the list of planners at the Villa Balbianello!

As your experienced Lake Como wedding planner we help you manage between FAI's vendor requirements, boat logistics, exclusive supplier lists (Blunotte for sound/lighting), tight setup windows, and the complexity of coordinating a day where everything arrives by water. Budget from €3,500–€7,000 for professional planning fees.

Availability Books Out 12–18 Months in Advance
Villa del Balbianello is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Italy. Peak dates in June, July, and September are typically reserved more than a year ahead. If you have a specific date in mind, begin your inquiry process immediately.

Guest Capacity Is Limited
The maximum guest count at Villa Balbianello for a full reception is approximately 130, but most events work best with 30–70 guests given the intimate scale of the terraces. The logistical complexity of boat transportation also increases significantly with larger guest lists.

The Legal Marriage vs. Symbolic Ceremony Question
Many couples choose a symbolic ceremony, but a civil ceremony at the villa is also possible but requires additional municipal coordination. Legal fees at the Tremezzina town hall are approximately €1800 + paperwork (getting Nulla Osta, legalization, translator ect)

Is Villa Balbianello Right for You?

Villa del Balbianello is not for every couple — and that's exactly what makes it special.
It demands a certain commitment: to Lake Como's pace, to the magic of arriving by boat,
to the intimacy of a protected historic estate, and yes, to a meaningful investment.
If you are a couple dreaming of a wedding that feels like it belongs in a film
— and you want the peace of mind that comes from working with an experienced planner
who knows every inch of the venue — Villa Balbianello will exceed every expectation you have.
The key is going in with accurate numbers,
a clear understanding of what's included and what isn't,
and a planning team that has done this before.
